" Do not ask permission, just play the video--" service meeting instructions.
by prologos inthis statement startled me out of the pleasant mental absence during this week's "service" meeting.. pushing the org.
explanation: "the listener has time to interrupt, if they want--" .
together with an incredible boring "study" of an hand held device, or it's stored content, i will be a totally new crop of orgies at the halls,.

I have never been out with JW's where a conversation stopper didn't work. People don't know what to do instinctually when someone says no thank you nicely.
Only a few old heads actually try something. i would say 90% of the JW's that hear I'm not interested, are perfectly happy to move on and have already done their "door".

I am without words. Is Sep 18th the chilean independance day?
So displaying the flag on independence day is up tot he local congregations? There has to be some kind of direction from the branch on this. This is hypocricy at its finest!
I am fuming right now!

Alter of idols? Good grief watcher. You continue to baffle.
I doubt very much she prays to those carvings and other things. Probably just reminders for her spiritually speaking.
But it most certainly better than being part of a legalistic, Pharisaical religion, that unscripturally excommunicates for differences of thought regarding ambiguous matters. How you can continue to defend this organization as it continues to try to shroud its history (whats that about a light under a basket?), is clearly responsible for death in the case of an erroneous blood doctrine and changes made throughout, and of course the shunning......the most "Christ-like" of all of their culturally governing principles,
is beyond me.
You never discuss any points of view with anyone, you just throw out a sentence or two, refuse to discuss any particular scriptural point, and leave.
I think that is very unfortunate. I propose we discuss the validity of the blood doctrine. For several reasons with the most important of which being establising bloodguilt. Also see: "communal bloodguilt" in the Insight book. If you study the literature that is.
I'll be waiting.
Take care.

Hey AFS,
Wow. It never ceases to amaze me as new people are on here all the time, how many things there are in common. So here are a few of my musings. I too have young children (not 5). :)
So just afew off the cuff thoughts. the more you learn, the more you will want to tell others. Hold off on that. The desire will subside with time.
Focus instead on your husband and children. Even with a thin thread tot he hall, you never know who may just dive in with eyes wide shut, and start shunning you a decade or two from now. the teachings are not harmless. Think of just two, blood, and shunning. How much harm is done there? You are allowing yourself to research, just look here. thousands of people with broken families. Make yours the priority. Everything else should come from that.
Next, right now you are a bit miffed because of primarily social issues. People being jealous, gossiping, etc... But those are local issues. Just move to Orange County, CA or west side of LA, and those issues go away. The REAL issues are the culture and doctrinal structure of a fundamentalist end time religion. It doesn't have to break your belief in God, but for me it certainly has. I no longer can accept things such as the flood myth, and I make no excuses for Gods supposed behavior in the OT that is far worse than any murderer i have ever heard of.
Still......I'm not sure where that takes me.
And that brings me to that last point. Don't feel like you have to do.......anything. You don't have to jump into some other belief system. You don't have to accept some other faith, or ditch the concept of a creator, or even feel like you must still believe in one. Allow yourself access to all information, and research. It sounds like you are doing that already.
Ride the roller coaster, and check in. We understand, and it helps to talk to peopl who understand. Welcome to the board.

the flood, mammoths, elphants, and food.
by Crazyguy inmy question is since it looks as though mammoths were alive after the flood and we know elephants are then how much food was needed to feed just these four animals for the time they were on the ark.
also was the ark, 500 feet long, big enough to hold the amount of food needed for just these 4 animals.. .

The flood......how did I ever believe in this?
God decides he is really upset with his decision to create man. Of course, sin is the culprit. So he allows some good guys (still sinful and therefore will pass on sin), to hit the reset button on all life on earth.
Of course it only makes sense to drown everyone slowly and methodically including the babies, and animals of the world.
Once everyone is dead, just speed up some micro evolution, and hide all traces of this event (I mean you are going to leave the dinosaurs, but not the flood evidence).
Of course man is just going to be jacked up again because they are still with sin.....but after the whole flood he feels bad and says yeah that was a bit rough.....I'll just make rainbows to show I won't do that again. I mean.....I'm going to kill everyone again in the future, just not with a flood. And this time when i kill them, they will grow to perfection, so i don't have to kill everyone again. And jsut in case some people want to rebel, i will have a stop gap killing at about the thousand year mark.
It all makes perfect sense!

School for Congregation Elders
by C.O.B.E.Beef ini attended the school late last year, and it was an emotional and mental rollercoaster for me.
i was already divided in my heart to say the least.
one of the instructors stayed in my home for the week, and my family genuinely enjoyed his company.

pAradise beauty,
Welcome and it is nice to meet you. Many Jehovahs Witnesses feel the same as you do. Of course, there are a few things to consider.
1) How old is too old to consider relevant? In other words, what is the expiration of food at the proper time? 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? 50 years? Do any of those time periods matter to Jehovah? If they are not relevant to you, but to someone else they were, would you feel their feelings are justified?
2) COBE's experience is his. But it is related to many others here who have served or are serving. See that meeting with hundreds of elders, creates the culture that then stretches across multiple congregations and circuits. If someone "goes rougue", they certainly were not put in their place.
3) The "feeling" of the publications is highly subjective. For example, i would suggest that the publications have become much more duplicitous. Giving the impression of personal responsability, while simultaneously making your salvation dependant on association with a particular group of people whos doctrine is subject to change at any time.
4) I respecfully disagree with your idea that freedom is not denied by the self appointed slave class my friend. If I celebrate my sons birthday and do so with a clean conscience, I am disfellowshipped. If I take a forbidden blood product and do not repent despite the fact i have studied it at length and my conscience allows it, I would be shunned. There is no freedom in the congregation. Most born in it (such as myself), don't even know what freedom is.
May I ask in the spirit of kindness and sincerity, what brings you to our site? I am not disfellowshipped. Just a person concerned with how things are going, that allowed myself the time to research outside of what i always held to be true without question. "Men" did not stumble me....reality did. :)
